Success can be measured in many ways for a Chamber of Commerce. The benchmark might be the strength of the local economy, the effectiveness of its business advocacy at all levels of government, the degree of membership involvement or perhaps by the number of firms that join and renew their membership annually. No matter what the yardstick, the Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce can and will continue to be counted as one of the best.
How do we follow the successes of the past with an even better performance this year? In today’s dynamic economic environment, even top businesses must continuously improve their products and services or risk losing their competitive edge. This also holds true for organizations such as the Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce.
With that being said and as Chairman, the Board and I plan to introduce some new initiatives that will compliment what’s already being done. It is our intention to support the economic development efforts of all entities in the community and partner with them to enhance additional economic opportunities for Dodge City, as well as educate our citizens about the importance of shopping locally. Our goal remains steadfast: to help our members and their businesses thrive.
Additionally, what a great win for us with the announcement of the 3i Show making Dodge City its permanent home. Representatives from the chamber, city and county should be commended for working cooperatively to bring the show back to Dodge City. Just a few weeks ago, the Chamber launched its brand new web site that will offer its members additional exposure at no additional cost.
The Chamber will continue to develop on-going programs such as the Dodge City Area Young Professionals, a program dedicated to the development, recruitment and retention of young professionals in our community. We will remain committed to representing the interests of our local business members to government on all levels, seek new ways to connect members to members, and identify new opportunities to promote our community by elevating our regional strengths and identity. Leadership development continues as well as bringing in more visitors to enjoy our western heritage through Dodge City Days!
I’d like to share with you a couple of quotes: “You’ll never hurt your eyes by looking on the bright side of things.” “You never really lose till you quit trying.” “When you think you’ve exhausted all possibilities, remember this….you haven’t.”
Being the ultimate optimist, I always look at the bright side of things; it’s not in my character to ever quit trying, and there is always the possibility for more! It is my sincere honor and pleasure to serve as your Chairman.
Terry Janson
