Principles for Engagement
At this year's Planning Session, 20 board members, committee chairs and chamber staff met to focus on strategic direction for your Dodge City Chamber of Commerce.
Strategic planning is an exercise that can hours, days and even weeks of work. Yet during the course of four hours, these leaders were able to address our chamber's priorities, focus and direction for 2013 and beyond.
The goal was to create a strategic direction, or starting point, to help our organization offer more productive services and value for our members and the community.
Last year's strategic directives became the starting poing to farmed the basis for this year's process. After lengthy dialogue, discussion and brainstorming, the leadership agreed upon 3 broad reaching and bridging principles to help create direction for the 2013 Business Plan.

Communication
1
It's become critical that in order for our chamber to effectively communicate with our members and the community, that a variety of communication methods, languages, delivery systems, and technology must be utilized. Heavy emphasis on a 2-way communication and actively seeking input from our members, strategic partners, and customers is a critical component. We will also strive to continually tell the chamber story with greater emphasis.

Initiate Change
2
The chamber finds itself in a unique position due to the recent staff transition process. It allows our organization to initiate change in the manner in which we manage programs, operations, events, committees and services. The Chamber's Leadership embraces this opportunity to review, consider and implement change throughout the organization. We recognize that change for change sake is not the solution; but rather, managed and responsive quantifiable actions will allow us to be more resonsive to the ever-changing multi-cultural demographics of our membership and community.
Advocacy
3
First and foremost, our chamber of commerce must be a strong advocate on behalf of our members and the business community in our region. We must recognize and represent the growing diversity of business interests. Our members must realize the chamber can be their best source of accessing our elected officials and government services. We strive to be "results driven." As such, we will work diligently with our strategic partners on issues critical to the business perspective.
For 2013, our Chamber of Commerce Business Plan will be to integrate these three principal directives as the Chamber's key focus and mission for the following:
