Western Kansas Congressional Delegation Goes to Washington DC

Western Kansas leaders from Dodge City, Garden, Liberal, Hays and Great Bend collaborated efforts to build relationships with congressional staffers in Washington D.C. City, County, Chamber and economic development representatives from all five communities hosted a ‘staffer reception’ in Washington for staff members from Senator Pat Roberts, Senator Jerry Moran and Congressman Tim Huelskamps’ offices.

“For many years now, the western Kansas delegation has visited Washington DC to discuss issues facing our region,” said Cindy Malek, President of the Dodge City Chamber. “It offers us the opportunity to visit with our Congressional Delegation members and to get to know their staff members a little more personally.”

The day began with a Legislative Staff Briefing and the issues covered were: housing, immigration, transportation, energy, over regulations, agriculture and education. The session was followed by a Q and A. Appropriate staff members representing each Congressional office reported on these issues and their involvement and position. Following the briefing were individual community visits to each Congressional office. Dodge City representatives were able to personally visit with Senator Roberts and Congressman Huelskamp. Senator Moran was unavailable but representatives met with staff members. Individual meetings were scheduled with the Essential Air Service office as well as Amtrak.
