Hello! I am Michelle Salinas, and I am running for Commissioner of Dodge City.
I never thought I would be running for a political office however, it has become clear to me that the vast majority of our current commissioners just do not share my values. One of the things I hold most dear, is independence. And since I see a very big problem with our city commission, I am compelled to stand up and try to lead in a way that I agree with.
Dodge City is an amazing community and has a rich heritage and unbelievable economic potential. The majority of our residents are family oriented, hard-working people of many walks of life. They are intelligent, and more than capable of making decisions for themselves and their families.
I believe that a majority of our citizens are also financially conservative, and value having their property and sales taxes used in the most efficient ways possible, with MAXIMUM transparency and with MAXIMUM community input when those spending decisions are made.
I see a problem with many of our current commissioners taking on more responsibility in the day to day lives of our community than they should ever even want and being loose and cavalier with spending choices. This is not good for our town.
I envision a City Commission that values Liberty, Independence, and Common Sense. I envision a City Commission that would treat each tax dollar as if it was their own personal budget. I envision a City Commission that would literally shutter at the thought of forcing economic or health decisions on the public through mandate. It is a horrible distortion of our form of self-government, and the fact that 80% of our commissioners jumped at the chance to do just that last year is why I am running this campaign. If I had my choice, I would be just as happy to take care of my husband, my home, and my business. But I genuinely love our way of life, and our God honoring, Common Sense history. So…I am fighting to maintain it. And I hope I can count on your vote.
Thank you for your time today!
